The following tips are excerpted from Mike Jackson's comments during the Jan. 12 Manager's Call.

Spring and summer always follow winter. Expansion always follows recession. The harder the winter, the bigger the rebound. Springtime is just ahead. You and I can bring in our personal spring faster with personal leadership. So what do we do?

Set some exciting goals for your life with dates and time frames--some dreams for you, your family, and your business. Set some income goals for the week, the month, the quarter, the year. Set some organizational, promotional, and sponsoring goals. How much do you want to earn?

Put some balance in your business plan with recruiting and retailing. Be a personal example for your group right now. Start this week. Retailing creates instant income, and recruiting creates residual income. We've got to have balance.

Take a major and a minor for your EcoQuest business. Be a specialist rather than a generalist. Become a professional. Whether you major in Fresh Air, PowerwoRx or Heartland/Infinity2, remember to have strong follow-through with a minor.

Don't take shortcuts to success. Use your tools like the Living Proof, Petri dish, Certified Space brochures, Hawaii certificates, and so on.

Never let a day go by that you are not moving forward in the business. Get all of your Fresh Air units in the work mode by putting them in front of prospects.

Doctors Report 'Alarming' Rise Of MRSA In Kids

The Today show on NBC reports that superbug infections in children are on the rise. In fact, researchers say they found an "alarming" increase in children's ear, nose, and throat infections in the U.S. caused by MRSA, dangerous drug-resistant staph germs.

Surprising facts from the study found in the January issue of Archives of Otolaryngology:
Hard-to-treat MRSA bacteria more than doubled from almost 12 percent to 28 percent in 21,009 pediatric head and neck infections caused by staph germs from 2001 through 2006.
Approximately 60 percent of the infections were likely contracted outside a hospital setting.

"This is a major public health problem," says Dr. Robert Daum, a University of Chicago expert in community-acquired MRSA.

Other studies have shown rising numbers of skin infections in adults and children caused by these germs, nicknamed MRSA, but this is the first nationwide report on how common they are in deeper tissue infections in the head and neck, the study authors said. These include certain ear and sinus infections, and abscesses that can form in the tonsils and throat.

EcoQuest Business Owner Perspectives

How is it that when all EcoQuest Business Owners have the same access to support and products, some succeed and others don't? It's all in how you think, says Jodi Ouellette.
"The mechanics and tools we have in this company are the same," says the Coordinating Manager from Champion, Mich. "We have access to all the same products, tools, training, leadership, and materials - so what's the difference between a successful person and an unsuccessful person in our business? It's what they're thinking about."

Jodi and her husband Mark joined EcoQuest in 2001 after Jodi responded to Dr. Mayra Llado's Internet ad. "We were closing our startup business when I found EcoQuest - literally," says Jodi. The Ouelettes were sitting in an attorney's office signing the papers to close their manufacturing enterprise when the e-mail came through. "It was the greatest blessing ever, although it was at a devastating time."

At Dr. Llado's request, Jodi took a look at the technology and a lead-based, Internet system for sales and recruiting. She fell in love with both. "Once I made the decision that this business was it, we were going to run with it. There was no Plan B."

Run with it, they did. "I really liked that I could operate completely from home. I loved the idea of doing a lot of business over the phone and on the Internet."

But several months into her business, Jodi started spinning her wheels, she says. "We were doing okay, but I was not getting the results I wanted. I started asking key questions. What are successful people doing that I'm not doing?"

For Jodi, it all boiled down to personal development. "The only thing I wasn't doing was a daily focus on personal growth, feeding my brain," she says. "As soon as I started getting my thinking, my mindset, and my psychology in the right place - and doing it daily - everything else came together."

Now each day starts with exercise and some form of personal development, says Jodi. "I believe that 98 percent of a person's success is literally due to the way they think. We have a system that teaches all the how-to's. To that we add a focus on teaching personal growth. This business was my first introduction to that. I didn't quite get it initially."

Once she "got it," Jodi was able to quit her day job in hotel management, marketing, and sales after six months. Although Mark lost his job in 2003, the EcoQuest business was doing so well that he was able to become a stay-at-home dad. He also works the EcoQuest business with Jodi. The couple has two children, Landon, 6, and Trenton, born in August 2008.

Within their organization, Jodi and Mark conduct three personal development calls a week. "Some people will participate in those calls or maybe show up once a week to a call and consider that their growth for the week," says Jodi. "If you don't participate in personal growth daily and start your day getting your mind straight from the beginning, you're doing yourself and your business a huge disservice. I usually tell people that if they don't take the time to grow themselves, they're wasting their time with everything else."

Developing good business relationships is a must for the Ouellettes, who started a BNI chapter in their area three years ago. "I get great business contacts through that organization." The couple has found that building great business relationships also builds great friendships. "If you invest the time and energy into people, you make lifelong friends," Jodi says.

Another strategy is team calls. During all their calls, the Oullettes make a point of recognizing the good work of their team members. They share testimonies, ideas, and successes with each other. "We are a volunteer army. Every person is there by choice. We commend people when they take their business seriously. We are always on the lookout for people who are doing things right."

This is an important aspect of team building, says Jodi, because "we can do a lot of action and get nowhere because we lack confidence. Unfortunately, a lot of people go through an entire career lifetime without recognition."Recognition breeds confidence, and confidence breeds success.

When we believe in ourselves and know that what we have is the best in the world, success will follow, says Jodi. "We've got to make a commitment to our business. We can't just play business and do it casually. If we want to turn this into a very successful business, we need to strive for excellence in everything we do everyday."

EcoQuest Air Purifier Dealer Perspectives

Angelo and Dee Martino celebrated their tenth anniversary with EcoQuest in November. They just earned their fifth bonus car, and are living a lifestyle that others only dream about. Yet Angelo can sum his business experience up in one word.

Relationships.

"Relationships are important to building a business like mine," says Angelo. He says his success has come through meeting people where they are and working with them. "Build trust. Don't focus on how much you can get, but how your business will impact others. Don't over-inflate things and talk hype. Roughly 99 percent of the country is worrying about mortgage payments and groceries right now. Don't talk luxury cars. Instead, focus on what they can do to bring more money in. An extra $500 a month or more is going to be a big help. With EcoQuest, we are in a position to help them."

Now more than ever people around us are in need, says Angelo. "Recessions and economic changes are always going to come. The EcoQuest Opportunity is a way that a person or family can safeguard against a recession."

Each person can tailor EcoQuest to fit their needs, he says. "People can choose where they want to go with this. I know a lot of people who have used EcoQuest as a second income. EcoQuest can put the food on the table and pay the mortgage when other companies have closed their doors."
Or they can follow the example of Angelo and Dee. After trying EcoQuest's air purification products, Dee and Angelo became independent Dealers. First came belief in the product, says Angelo. "We had just built a new home and the basement was musty. On a friend's advice, we tried the air filtration product. Within a day and a half, you couldn't have pried the air purifier out of my hands."

And Angelo had at least five units sold before he even became a Dealer. His friends all wanted one. And like him, they didn't want to return the product at the end of the demonstration period.
"They were especially impressed that cigar smoke didn't linger," says Angelo. "When they asked why, I pointed to the little box. I told them I wasn't selling them, but Dee said, 'You know, for under $50 you could be.' That was the launch of our career."

They each had six-figure jobs and a great lifestyle. Within a year, the Martino's EcoQuest income surpassed the combined earnings from their corporate jobs. They decided to fire their bosses and work full-time for themselves.

Nowadays, Angelo sells almost as many ecoboxes as Fresh Air units. The less expensive ecobox is a big seller these days, another reality of today's market. Angelo is particularly excited about the PowerwoRx. "The PowerworRx is a product with tremendous value. I'm a businessman, and I look for people who have the opportunity to permeate these other markets-like electricians, builders, and the like."

Again, relationships.

Angelo likes eye-to-eye contact with his clients and business associates. "I don't do as well with cold market contacts over the phone or running through lists, but if I can talk to five people in person, they are going to remember who I am."Keep in touch. Build your network. Keep relationships alive. This is the advice Angelo gives to other Business Owners.

EcoQuest's Energy Sweepstakes Winner Announced

"It's like Christmas having my energy bills paid for one year!" says Rosann Vesio, EcoQuest's first Free Energy for a Year sweepstakes winner. The drawing was held Jan. 5. Rose Smith, the Dealer who gave the coupon to Rosann, and EcoQuest's Rick DeMarco, called her to break the good news. "I'm as excited as she is!" says Rose.

Rosann, who works in a doctor's office, recently overheard Rose at a picnic talking to someone else about a free Fresh Air demonstration. "I have some problems in my house," says Rosann. "I asked if she would demonstrate the Fresh Air in my house. She did, and I purchased it. I have pets and it works well for me. It gets rid of my pet odor."

Rose gave Rosann a Free Energy for a Year coupon for letting her demonstrate the product in her home. On getting the good news, Rosann exclaimed, "I never win anything ever!" EcoQuest Dealers Big Success Selling Air Purifiers

For 11 years, Paul Hancock organized his life around his work schedule as a manager at Wal-Mart. "Before, I took my work schedule home and we would plan our time around that," says Paul. "We sacrificed a lot. I was taking the leftovers on a weekly basis when I worked in a corporate setting."

Now Paul and his wife, Kelley, still sit down with the calendar every Sunday night to plan their week, but a wonderful thing has happened since they've discovered EcoQuest.

"Now I start with what's important," says Paul. "I am able to look at all the things that are important to us in our lives - our kids, each other, our church, social events - and plan those first. EcoQuest has given us the ability to start with that. My business activities fall in around that time. That is exactly the opposite of Wal-Mart. My retail career in corporate America was preventing me from fulfilling my role as a father, husband, and member of the church."

Working 60-plus hours at nights and on holidays took Paul away from everything that was important to him, namely his family. The couple has two children: Jonathan, 5, and Emily, 3.
"Not being there at night to tuck your kids in and say prayers because you work is really tough," says Paul. "Missing out on important events in the life of your family is hard. I was looking for a business that would change my life."

Paul and Kelley found EcoQuest in June 2006. Paul stayed with Wal-Mart while he was building his new business. After eight months, he was making more money with EcoQuest than he was making on salary at the retail store. After nine months, the Hancocks were awarded their first bonus car, and they were building a stellar team.

"We got really excited about the idea of being able to make money at the service of other people and helping them grow a strong business so we could achieve freedom for ourselves," says Paul.

The Hancocks have worked their business from many different angles - warm markets, cold markets, direct mail, Internet leads, trade shows, advertising, BNI, and even public speaking for civic clubs and retirement homes. "We did a little bit of everything," says Paul. "None of this was a grand slam for us. Not one was a homerun hit, but doing a little bit of all of it has always brought in business. There has always been something happening. Our pipeline has always been full of prospects because we've learned that massive action bring massive results."

To build relationships with business partners, Paul recommends doing whatever you can to help them be successful. "Plug them into the system. Get the focus off you, your business, and making money, and put the focus on other people. Success in this business is about identifying other people's needs and what they want to accomplish, either for themselves or for their security. Work to solve those problems with them."

Adopt the visions of your partners as your own, says Paul. "If they want to get out of debt, embrace that as if it were your own goal. Walk with them in their shoes out of debt or away from a dead-end job. It's more than just patting them on the back and saying 'good luck.' Be part of the experience. Go there with them."

Paul attributes this attitude to the success of his business. "People leave businesses all day long but they don't leave friends. When you really embrace your partners, and you start to work with them to achieve their goals, you make friends. When they see that you are serious and that you believe in them, they are going to take your support and encouragement and turn it into success.

"Finding EcoQuest is "just the beginning of a journey to lead us to the people we can help," says Paul. "Our goal is help other families obtain time and freedom. If we have a giving attitude about that, we believe that God will send people to us who need hope, who feel trapped. It's important to us to emphasize that this business is an act of faith for us on a daily basis. We trust in God to help us."
